It is almost certain that the New Genesis update was also part of the deal with Microsoft to bring PSO2 to North America and subject to Xbox console launch exclusivity. Finally, while there was no mention of what graphics engine is being used for the update, can’t count out Unreal yet. PSO2: New Genesis will launch for the Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC in 2021 outside Japan.In Japan, it will appear on the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch via Cloud, and PC in both normal. PSO2 still has a strong following and it has aged well for an eight-year old MMO, but New Genesis feels fresh and exciting. Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis will launch for PC and Xbox in the US.

The 1st Closed Beta of Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis was a great success in regards to data acquisition and feedback, and a 2nd one was planned after a certain time frame. However, based on today’s announcement from the JP official website, the 2nd phase will be unfortunately delayed, due to multiple misbehaviors found in the graphics engine and more. Based on a rough translation of the original post, the following was mentioned:

“Thank you for your cooperation in the first closed test of PSO2: NGS, which was conducted from Friday, January 29, 2021 to Sunday β January 31, 2021.
With your help, we were able to see in-game graphics and data sharing issues in PSO2:NGS and PSO2, as well as temporarily high server load.

We would like to conduct the 2nd closed test after some bug fixes β measures against server load.
* It is expected to take time to fix the target defects and take measures against server load.
In addition, we will change the timing of the 2nd closed test that we announced as scheduled in february β notification email.
Detailed implementation timing will be announced at a later date.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding.”

While the above is bad news for those that were eagerly waiting for the 2nd Closed Beta to start, I personally would prefer to see a bug-free version of the game, to have a better look to its features and gameplay. Taking more time to fix anything needed, will for sure have a positive impact to the game, so we all need wait and see what they have in store for us.

Pso2 New Genesis Xbox Beta

Yesterday, Sega announced Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis, with drastically overhauled graphics and gameplay, leading to some confusion as to whether this is a new game or not. However, Sega has released a follow-up video that is much more clear about the connection between PSO2 and PSO2: New Genesis, and what is carried over.

Essentially, PSO2: New Genesis acts as something of a clean break from PSO2, set 1,000 years after the events in the original game. Sega is calling it the “rebirth” of the game, and the game features a wide-open playing field alongside its graphics and gameplay upgrades. Character growth will be reset, such as EXP, skills, Photon Arts, and Techniques. Game economy currency like Meseta, FUN, and more will not carry over either, although paid currency like Arcs Cash will be shared across both titles. That said, weapons, units, and Mags will carry over and be usable, albeit with temporarily different appearances and abilities. Most importantly, your character is carried through both games, and you can play both with the same account and character (though you can change your character looks as well). Emotes and other data will be carried over from the original game.

Meanwhile, Sega was quick to assure fans that this doesn’t mean that PSO2 is getting abandoned and shut down, thanks to New Genesis. The original title is getting a graphical upgrade to match the new game, and both titles will share the same free-to-play gameplay model with paid microtransactions. So for those players still getting through in-game content (especially for the North American version), it’s safe to continue playing with your current character.
